In 1994, a play called The Vagina Monologues, written by playwright and activist Eve Ensler, broke ground, offering to the world a piece of art like nothing it had seen before. Based on dozens of interviews Ensler conducted with women, the play addressed women's sexuality and the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse, creating a new conversation about and with women. The Vagina Monologues ran Off-Broadway for five years in New York and then toured the United States. After every performance, Ensler found women waiting to share their own stories of survival, leading her to see that The Vagina Monologues could be more than a moving work of art on violence; she divined that the performances could be a mechanism for moving people to act to end violence.

V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.
Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues, to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. Each year, thousands of V-Day benefit events take place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.

Womanspace Resource Centre proudly brings you The Vagina Monologues play.

100% of the proceeds go to the Lethbridge YWCA Harbor House.

Opened in 1981, YWCA Harbour House is a 24-bed crisis unit for women and children who are involved in abusive intimate partner relationships. Abuse may be physical, emotional, financial or sexual in nature.

Families are provided accommodations for a maximum of 21 days, with staff available for counselling and support 24 hours a day. Education sessions on the impact of family violence on children, cycle and dynamics of violence, and safety planning are available for all clients.

Harbour House Shelter also operates a 24 hour crisis-line. Each year, the crisis-line receives approximately 7500 information calls and 1750 crisis calls. As well, support is given to more than 200 women on a drop-in basis each year. On average, the shelter houses 600 women and children a year. There are no fees for this program.

♦ YWCA Harbour House Women's Emergency Shelter can be reached 24 hours a day at 403-320-1881 or 1-866-296-0447.

Description

Theatre Outré’s  has moved to  the new location of  517 A 4 Ave South

Our vision for Club Didi is that it not only be a home base for Theatre Outré’s operations, but that it be used by other theatre and performance groups in the city who have also noticed the lack of small and affordable theatre and cabaret space.  We welcome you and hope you’ll take advantage of what Club Didi is meant to be.

We also envision that our Club Didi can be a gathering place for the city’s queer community along with their friends and allies.  It is a place where judgment, prudishness and censorship are uninvited and where open expression of sexuality, humanity and creativity is embraced with abandon.

Watch for a variety of events from Club Didi including Movie & Cuddle Nights, musical tributes to gay icons, strip spelling bees, Karaoke and, of course, our season of exciting theatre.

Club Didi is equipped with seating for up to 40 people and can be set up in a variety of ways to suit your particular needs.  Cabaret seating with tables or traditional theatre seating are both options.

We have an 8 x 8 foot raised stage available that can be set up or removed as well making our playing space incredibly versatile for performances and events of all kinds.

We also boast a surround sound system, mounted speakers, dvd player and projector for presentations, movies and karaoke.

If you wish to book Club Didi for your performance or event contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . for availability and affordable rates.

See you at Club Didi where we’ll ‘turn on the red light!’
