A British (and Viennese) Invasion.

Two legendary icons of music kick off our 2015-2016 Symphony Series, the Beatles and Beethoven, with a special guest appearance by our own icon, pianist Glen Montgomery.

As arranged by Robert Lowden, we’ll be taking a look back at the 1960s through the eyes of the first British super-group, with Remembering the Beatles. From Eleanor Rigby through to A Hard Day’s Night, this musical journey will take you back to a time when peace, love and social consciousness were mainstays on our airwaves. We then move on to Calvin Custer’s The Best of the Beatles, an arrangement which includes the classics Got to Get You Into My Life, When I’m 64, Michelle, and Get Back.

Closing our first series will be Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and Symphony No. 5. Exploring the three movements in the Piano Concerto, we’ll be transported back to Vienna in the early 1800s when Beethoven took the stage in his last solo performance with an orchestra. Described as one of the most important works of its time, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony begins with the ominous, world-famous four note opening motif found across pop culture today, before flowing through its four movements with particular elegance.

Beatles and Beethoven kick off an exciting roster of events!

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra is proud to present, Beatles & Beethoven on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Southminster United Church at 8 PM with special guest artist, Glen Montgomery on piano.

Under the baton of Music Director, Glenn Klassen, audiences can expect to be thrilled with the sounds of iconic tunes from the British rock legends and the infamous music of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

The Beatles changed the landscape of rock ’n’ roll forever with their infectious melodies and haunting lyrics, which paved the way for the psychedelic music era of the 1970s. With the symphony emphasizing those big rock sounds, the British invasion experience is sure to be one to remember.

The music of the Fab Four is complemented by a Viennese invasion of Beethoven proportions. His well-known Piano Concerto No. 4 was also a musical game-changer in its day, and will be beautifully brought to life by Glen Montgomery, returned from his new home in Montreal to once again share the stage with the LSO. Not to be overshadowed, Beethoven’s infamous four-note opening motif of one his best-known symphonies, the Fifth will be an equally impressive experience to round out the evening.

Klassen is looking forward to the start the Lethbridge Symphony’s 2015-2016 Season and looks forward to seeing audiences experience the British invasion.

“We’ve put together an entertaining and dynamic first concert for our banner 55th Season. There’s something for everyone with the Beatles and crowd favourite Beethoven, so we hope that patrons will be just as pleased with the repertoire as we are to play it for them.”
